First Fill Done

Went yesterday for first fill and I admit I was nervous and scared. It took three attempts to locate port. The first attempt did not hurt, 2nd attempt was worst than the first. Wow the needle is so long. After the second attempt I went to xray to locate exactly where the port is and my goosh she got it. I had 5.2 cc in my band and she added 1.0 cc now I'm at 6.2 cc in my 10cc band. Passed the swallowing test without a problem. I was on liquids yesterday, will have soft foods today and regular diet tomorrow. My tummy is a little sore around the port area. I marked my port area, so they can get it the first time next time. Overall I feel great woke up not hungry. Yesterday had a half of protein shake and a 1/2 cup cream of wheat and a sugar free pudding and I was full. Let's see how long this last lol. Today I have only had a 1/2 cup of coffee so far gonna try and get a protein shake in. Gonna start setting goals for myself and see how it goes from there. Good luck to all.   Total weight loss to date 30 lbs.

Coming Up On 4 Weeks Post-Op

Well tomorrow is the day that I'm officially four weeks out. Each day has gotten better. I am scheduled to return to work on April 15th per my job. I'm scheduled for my first fill tomorrow and yes I am nervous and scared. I'm hoping that if I need one they will hit it the first try lol. Overall life has been great, i have more energy, I started going back to the gym and I'm managing getting my protein in finally. I can say the soreness of the incisions and getting the protein in has been my biggest task. I have dealt wit the ups and downs of being newly banded. Have had dry heaving episodes x 2 early post-op but none since then. I'm tolerating regular foods without difficulty and have lost 30lbs to date. I am very proud of myself this was the best thing that I could have done for my self. Although when I look in the mirror I don't see what others see but it feels good when someone says girl you looking good the weight is really coming off. I have gotten my calorie intake up also averaging around 800-1000 calories a day and between 40-60 gm protein. It really feels good to not think about food all day, now I'm able to focus on other things. I can watch others eat and it does not bother me. I do eat low calorie snacks occasionally. If I want chocolate I eat the skinny cow wafer bars they are great and for chips I eat baked only and I just satisfy the craving not the whole bag. I have better control now than I have ever had in my life. I love being banded.

Post-Surgery

Well I was scheduled for surgery on Friday, March 2. I arrived at the hospital at 06:30, was weighed in and given a gown to change. I was so dehydrated 4 attempts were made to get the IV in, by that time the surgeon was ready for me. The anesthesiologist came to talk to me and he gave me a cocktail and I don't remember anything else. I awoke in recovery, with no pain, I stayed there then I was placed in a room on the floor to finish recooperating. I was told he did a hernia repair along with my banding. I did a swallow test and xray to confirm placement. By 3pm I was a mess dry heaving, trying to vomit but nothing would come up, blood pressure was out of control and the pain was terrible. I walked and walked and walked and could not rid the gas or burp. The doctor made me NPO due to the nausea, thank God I never vomited. I was concerned about the band with the dry heaving, hope I did not ruin anything. I had one nurse who was awful, I ask meds 2 hours before I actually started heaving, had to literally cry to get meds for nausea and gas. Beyond that I'm glad to have been discharged at 10:45 pm made it hope at 11:30 had a rough night but feeling so much better today. Still having the gas in the left shoulder area but been walking. Came home with pain and nausea meds. I am glad to be on the otherside at this point I would have not changed a thing, this could have happened to anyone. As far as appetite, I have none not hungry at all but have had jello, water, vitamin, juices gonna try a protein shake today. Gonna take it easy, walk, rest and hydrate.
