4 Months After Surgery

Well it has been a busy 4 months. I just had a follow up visit and have lost a total of 65 pounds since surgery! I am currently at 237.5 lbs. This has been such an incredible journey and I have no regrets about having lap band surgery. Not only do I feel a 1000 times better but I am no longer on medication for high blood pressure and I am once again able to enjoy the activities that I once loved. I have a new found passion...bicycling. I joined a women's bicycling group and invested in a good road bike. My longest ride to date is 33 miles. My goal is to do a 50 mile ride by the end of the summer. I have attached a photo from a ride I did on Memorial Day to benefit cancer research. 27 miles in 88 degrees...it was a hot one but I did it!

1 Month Post Op

Hi Gang. Well I had my first follow up appointment and fill. Received 1cc. To date I have lost a total of 31.9 pounds. Wahoo! I have been diligent in following everything to a "T". Still on pureed foods which has not been bad at all. In fact, I have been able to tolerate more fruits and veggies than ever before. Excercising 5 days a week even if it is just a 45 minute walk outside. The weather has been gorgeous. I am finding that my clothes are quickly becoming too big and I will need to do some shopping before returning to work. My familiy and friends are super supportive and I am so blessed. Life is good.

3 Days Post Surgery

Went into surgery late Monday afternoon. Procedure went well and was in recovery a little longer than anticipated due to elevated blood pressure. I ended up staying an extra day in the hospital due to elevated white blood cell count but it appears it was due to the stress of surgery and i was sent home yesterday. I have been home now about 20 hours and am so happy to be home. My incisions are doing well and I have been up and moving every hour as instructed. Harding thing is ASKING for and ACCEPTING help from others. For those approaching surgery, be patient with yourself. I was not certain whether I was supposed to be feeling some of the things I was physically but knew that "this too shall pass" barring serious pain. I was not reluctant to ask my doctor, the nurses or aids any questions about what I was experiencing and found that it was all very normal. I am anxious to get back to the gym but know that I have to be patient with myself and take it slow in the beginning. I will post more as things progress.

Surgery Is Monday!

So I have been on the liquid diet for 9 days now. My surgery is schedule for Monday and I am ready to go. I have come to terms with the fact that having surgery does not mean that I am a failure or that I was not doing what I needed to in the past. It is just another tool available to me to work toward a healthier life. I am blessed with a wonderful support group and am grateful for this blog.
