17Months Post Op!!!

Well Well, I cant believe I haven’t made an entry here since January of this year! Nothing much has changed. I did my first ½ marathon in February. It was an amazing feeling! I did another one in April. In all, I have done 7 races since October last year. But now, I’m at a standstill. I’ve been at 212 for months! I was trying to get back on track but I lost my mother last month. Now, I’m trying to get back there. I’m wondering if I need a fill. I got into the green zone November of last year and I haven’t had a fill since. (surgery date was 12/10) I used to feel pretty good restriction in the mornings…yesterday I ate whole sausage and egg biscuit! In the evening, I can eat just about anything. I still feel restriction in the morning, but maybe not as much? I’m so scared of getting overfilled. I have heard horror stories about that. Any advice? I need it soon since I have already made an appointment for this afternoon . On another note…I bought my first pair of size 10’s last month!! From a 22-24 to a size 10! Woohoo!! Still got about 30 more lbs to go...it seems to be taking forever!

Happy New Year! 13 Months Post Op!

Hello and Happy New Year! It’s been awhile since I blogged, (since October!) I guess because not much has really changed. Last you heard from me I was in a size 14 jeans. I’m happy to say that I was able to get into a size 12 over the weekend!! Yay!! As far as exercise goes, I have signed up for a ½ marathon in February. I have been in training since November. I’m currently logging 21 miles a week. I’ve run three races since October. When I’m not running, I’m doing step, kickboxing or HIIT. One thing that is incredibly frustrating is that the scale is not moving! The nurse told me that once you body loses so much; you have to really change things up to get it going again. So…I have decided to pay more attention to carbs and protein. I did in the past, but I’m going to really focus on that. I have been pretty good for the last 3-4 days. I’m on my fitness pal if anyone wants to friend me. (slimndiva) I got my last fill in November and that put me into the green zone. I have to really chew my food and pay attention to how my band is accepting it. It can be finicky at times. I now have 7cc’s in a 10cc band. Took me a while to even feel restriction, but I’m there now!   2011 was a good year for me, but I’m determined to make 2012 even better. I got rid of a sorry boyfriend that was stressing me out and I’m looking forward to dating again and living a stress free life! I know my worth and I’m definitely worth more than that!   Good luck fellow bandsters! Wish me luck with this journey and I will do the same for you!!

Trucking on along

Here I am 10 months out from my surgery. I'm holding steady at 226lbs. Can't seem to break that for some reason. I have been working out more and I can't say that I have been following the rules to the letter about eating. I had an appointment this morning and decided to get another fill. I'm at 6.5ccs in a 10cc band now. My concern is being overfilled. I'm scared to death of that happening. I'm close to my green zone, but I can tell I'm not really there. I judge my hunger level after eating (how many hours before I'm hungry again) I was pretty sure I needed a little more. Hopefully this fill will put me square in the zone! I would really like to be 199 or less on 12/31/2011. There are so many good things happening with every pound I shed. I have a 5k race coming up this Saturday. I have a 10 mile race on 10/22. And I'm doing a turkey trot (race thanksgiving morning) I've found a new passion with running! I'm thinking I need to adjust my nutrional needs to my new regimen. I will see what happens with this fill and if no change I will discuss my options with my nutritionist. Also, I'm in a size 14! Not tight...fitting just right! Some are loose, so here I come size 12!! 65lbs lost and confidence gained!!   Good luck everyone!

I did what?

Good Morning everyone!! I signed up for a 5k on the 8th of October so I have been in training for a couple weeks now. I do a walk/jog about 2 to 3 times a week along with my regular cardio and strength training routine. Saturday mornings I go to a greeenway trail with a friend of mine that's also doing the race. This past Saturday we did a total of 6 miles. On the way back I suggested that we try to run most of it. I was able to run 3.2 miles without stopping or walking. I still can't believe that I was able to do that! Of course that distance is a tad more than a 5k. I'm in shock that I was able to do it a month before the race. OMG!! AND....the scale said 225 this morning...almost 70lbs gone!!! I feel awesome people!! for the ones struggling with little restriction, hang in there. I was the same way. It seemed as if I didnt even have a band. It's very important to keep your appointments, not only for the fills but I get great information from the nurses and other office staff. It really helps!

A new middle one! and a new pic!

For the past few days the scale reads 229!! Wow! Been many years since I've seen a 2 in the middle. I'm loving life people! For the new bandsters, hang in there, get your fills, go to your appointments....it gets better! Good Luck EVERYONE!   I took this pic this morning (loving the camera now!)

Chugging on along

Hello fellow bandsters! Hope everyone is having a great day. Just wanted to check in and update on my progress. Everything is going pretty good. I got a fill last week of .25 which brings me to 6.25. I'm definitely in the green zone I think. Everything is going down pretty good for the most part. Sometimes things get hung up during certain times of the day. We have had a break in the intense heat here in NC so instead of only going to the gym, I have started a run/walk routine. I'm hoping to do a 5k in the fall. Right now I can do 3.6 miles in about 50 minutes. I'm hoping to get better and better with that. Since I have gotten back on track with eating and exercising regularly I have noticed a change in my body. It feels great! I'm attaching a picture that I took this morning in the bathroom...lol (if i can figure out how to attach it) Good luck everyone!

On the right track again

Hello fellow bandsters. Lately I have been trying to get back on track with eating and exercising. I can say that I have been successful. I think vacation and preparation for vacation had me in " dont care" mode. Since then I have been back on track. The scale read 234.8 this morning! That is about a 10lb loss post vacation. I have been working out 4-5 times per week and it feels great!! I'm also really trying to focus on my hunger level and how long it takes me to get hungry after eating. I have a fill appointment next week and I think I'm getting pretty close to the green zone. I definitely don't want to be overfilled. Everything pretty much goes down fine, even without me chewing it to mush. I can eat bread, steak, chicken...anything. I can also guzzle water. I do find that I'm tighter in the morning, but other than that, no problems. Right now I have 6cc's in a 10 cc band. I'm thinking maybe .25 would be good, but who knows since I have a delayed reaction to fills at times. I can eat a meal in less than 10 minutes, depending on what it is. What do you guys think? Do I need a fill?

Stuck and sliming for the first and last time!

Getting stuck and sliming is so not the business! I ate part of a chicken wing while driving Saturday afternoon. I had just gotten up and was on my way home with my kids (spent the night at my sister's house) I know it sounds crazy but sometimes I forget to chew and eat slowly like I should. I think the reason for that is because I had never gotten stuck or had any bad episodes with the band. (besides some slow moving bread last week) I instantly felt that stuck feeling and it didnt go away after a few minutes like before. The pain kept getting worse. Then the infamous sliming started. I was using a napkin after first to get rid of it, but it came a point that I had to pull over and spit it out. When I got home I laid down and after about an hour, the pain subsided. I never want to go through that again!!! This last fill brought me to 6cc's and my fills usually have a delayed effect. I tighten up about 2 weeks after. I will be more careful from now on!! On another note, I have on a size large skirt and a size large blouse today!!!

Bad girl...bad bad girl

I have not been the best bandster this week...ugh! I have only excercised a total of 40 minutes and I have not been eating the best. I had cake and icecream last night. I know it wasn't the right choice, but lemme tell ya...it was DELICIOUS!! I'm up 7lbs since last week. I know it's just water retention because I havent been THAT bad!! I'm going to zumba tonight and I'm going to walk around the lake tomorrow and Saturday since we have a break in the heat. I'm getting back on track!!

Size 14's!!

Went to my favorite store (CATO) last week and bought some size 14 jean capris! Tried them on and they fit well...not to tight. After wearing them they loosened up alot! I cant believe it...SIZE 14!!! I also bought a blouse....large! It feels wonderful!! I have an appointment on Friday for another fill. I'm thinking I may not need one. I'm worried about being overfilled. Nothing gets stuck and I stay satisfied after eating for about 4 hours. Right now I have 5.75cc in my band. The hunger pains died down after the last fill. It didnt seem that way at first but about 2 weeks later I started feeling like my band had gotten tighter. I got on the scale this morning and it read 237!! 54lbs lost!! I'm still keeping up with my 4 workouts a week....I feel guilty if I don't go to the gym...I'm loving the way my body is changing for the better!

Loser Weekend!

Hello all...lately I have been having trouble being a good bander on the weekends (alcohol, food, exercise) but I was determined to change that. I'm proud to say that although my TOM hit over the weekend, I still lost! I'm officially in another decade. 230's! It has been years since I have seen a 2 and a 3 preceding the last digit! I weighed in at 239.2 this morning. I walked around the lake on Friday morning (before it got too hot! I'm in the south) which completed my 4 workouts for the week. AND I went to body step class yesterday afternoon so I'm already one workout behind me for the week! Plus for the entire weekend I got in my water and took my supplements. I'm pretty sure I ate much less that I should have. I have heard ladies say that during TOM they have more restriction...well I find that to be true. Saturday morning I cooked steak, eggs and grits. The steak got stuck! Never had a stuck episode like that before, needless to say, I didn't try anymore. I really thought I was going to throw up! After that, I just wasn't hungry. Didnt even think about food. I like that feeling!! I hope to keep this downward trend going....soon I will be seeing a 2 and another 2 before the last number! Woohoo!!!

6 months post op!

Here I am 6 months post op (had surgery 12/9/2010) I weighed in at 242 this morning (AGAIN) I had a fill last week that brought me to 5.75cc's. I am feeling more restriction than I did before, but I dont think I'm quite in the green zone. I notice WAY more restriction after working out. For some reason I'm really tight after whether I go to the gym or just walk around the lake. My body is definitely changing for the better. Although the scale is stagnant, I'm surely losing inches. When I went for my fill last month the nurse took my measurements, I lost 4 inches from my waist since the 3 month post op visit. My hips measured the same but I'm not too worried about that since I kinda wanted to keep some of them. I want to keep some of my curvaciousness. My problem and I readily admit it....weekends! I can do a stellar job working out, drinking water, counting calories and eating healthy during the week, but the weekends, I seem to throw it all out the window thus starting over again on Monday. What is up with that? I dont go overboard, but my efforts are not as dilligent on the weekend. But, this weekend, I'm going to break that cycle. I have a baby shower to go to and there is going to be bbq and all the fixins, cake and a bunch of other stuff..including wine. I'm determined to be a good lapbander and stay on target. I'm detemined not to see the scale up on Monday morning.   Are the weekend hard for you too? Any tips?

Green Zone here I come!

Good morning everyone! Hope you are doing well. Its been a while since I posted here so let me catch you up on what's been going on. I went for my 5th fill last week, I now have 5.25cc's in a 10cc band. I think I'm getting very close to where I need to be. I have lost 3lbs since last week. I usually lose after a fill anyway because I have to do liquids on the fill day, soft food the next and regular food the next. I have not had a stuck episode or any throwing up (Thank God!) I try to be very careful about chewing and small portions. When i first got my fill (yall may think this is crazy) I timed how long it took for water to go through my band....it took 4 seconds when it used to go right through before.Am I the only one that does this? I stay full longer on less food now. But it's not the 4-5 hours that will signify the green zone. I have been trying different things like greek yogurt and more protein rich foods. Greek yogurt is great and has 14-16 grams of protein depending on the flavor and if I eat it for breakfast, it keeps me until lunch. I think I, like some others, thought that the weight would just fall off after surgery. I have learned that is not the case. I also thought the band would prevent me from eating. That is not the case. I was always told it was a tool and I am convinced of that now. Now when I eat, I take my time and stop at a certain point. If I'm still hungry after a few minutes, I will eat a little more. But most times I find that I'm full. Its hard to tell that when I'm constantly shoving food down my throat. 6/9 will be my 6 month anniversary, and I have lost 47lbs. (weighed 244 this morning) Even though I have been losing slow, I feel better, I look better, I enjoy working out, and I'm in a size 16 comfortably!! Hang in there everyone!!

XL?

Good morning everyone! So yesterday I decided to get some new work clothes for two reasons. One-my old ones were getting saggy and two-the weather is changing. Off I go to my favorite store.....Cato. If anyone is familiar with Cato, you know they have the store split into two sides. Plus size and "regular" size. Of course I make a beeline for the Plus section. I saw some nice things, but all the sizes were too large. I'm thinking to myself, they have sold out of all the smaller sizes. I see this skirt I liked and asked the saleslady if they had anymore. She said "well, there are few more left on the other side" The other side? Off I go to the other side. To my surprise I could fit XL!!! No "W" on the end of it. And, it's not tight or inappropriate looking. I have on the skirt now that I bought there. XL? I have lost over 40lbs (which may not seem like much) and I had surgery 12/9/2010. But, I go to the gym 4 days a week for an hour each time. I'm taking step, weight training, kickboxing and Zumba classes. I have lost lots of inches. But XL? No one else can understand what we go through but others that have been through the same things we have. Our bodies change, we lose weight, but we still think that we are heavier than we are. Just think, I was on the plus side thinking they had ran out of smaller sizes, when I was just in the wrong section. My 10cc band it at 4.5cc now. I go this morning for another fill and I'm hoping that will give me the restriction that I need. Right now, I have none. I can feel a little first thing in the monring, but for the most part, I eat what I want. I think the fact that I have been exercising has kept me from gaining. Granted I eat far less than I used to, but I could do better. Well, thanks for listening and GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!

4 months out

This is my first blog entry and it's been a little over four months since surgery. (12/9/10) A little about myself....I'm 38 years with two children. I have a very supportive boyfriend that I have been with for about 3 years now. I have been overweight all my life except for the times I dieted and lost some. Of course those pounds always came back with more. I made the decision to do lapband when the doctor threatened to put me on cholesterol meds in addition to the BP meds I was taking. I felt i was too young to be on daily meds for the rest of my life. To date I have lost exactly 40lbs. I wished it was more. The surgeon didnt put any fluid in at the time of surgery. My first visit in January, I got a 1.5cc fill (10cc band) in February I got a .75 fill. Last month in March, since I had gained 7lbs since february, she gave me at 2.25cc fill, which now brings me to 4.5cc. I still have no restriction. I go back next week and hopefully I will get a fill and get some restriction. Up until now, my weight loss as been from regular ole diet and exercising. I work out four times a week an hour each time. I could have done this without the band right? In my mind I'm thinking that when I do FINALLY get some restriction I will continue to lose weight hopefully at a faster rate. We will see I guess. But on a happier note, I feel much better, look better and feel alot better about myself. I started in a size 22w, now I can get in regular 18's (no W) and they could be tighter. I'm thinking I probably between a 16 and 18. Progess? Yes. Slower than I thought? Yes. Happy? Definitely!! Thanks for reading! Be back soon with updates!
