food question

Is there a bandster out there who can eat whatever they want just smaller portions? Other than bread, are there other foods that dont seem to work with the band. I get my first fill in 4 weeks. Right now Im starving and I can eat anything so Im just wondering if that will change.

when does weight loss start

I have a question for all you bandsters out there. I was banded 3 weeks ago. My doc has me on regular food now. So for over 2 weeks I was consuming about 800 cals a day. Now I am eating a little more. I walk 5K a day. I was wondering if anyone could explain to me when the weight loss will begin. I actually lost nothing but I gained a pound. Once I get a fill I cant imagine eating much less than 800 cals a day especially when exercdising a lot. Just seems so weird that my body isnt responding to this very expensive proceedure. I welcome help and advice from anyone who has gone through this. Thanks guys!

15 days post op

I was banded 15 days ago. I had my follow up appointment today. I love my doc. He's very liberal. I was only on full liquids for a week then mushies for a week. Now he wants me to eat normally. Of course I need to load up on protein, chew well and eat slowly. He said he has been doing this a long time and the whole process is often misunderstood. He said there is no need to be on liquids for as longs as I read most people are. I have been very hungry but Im getting kind of use to it. I will have my first fill in 4 weeks. I walk 5K every day and eat 3 very small meals a day. You'd think Id lose some weight but as it turns out I have gained a pound since my surgery date. He said not to worry about it. The weight loss will be very slow. I have no idea how much I weigh and I dont care. He said it will probably take me a year to lose 50lbs. Thats about 1 pound a week. Does anyone else have a similar story? I thought things may go a little faster?

2 days post-op

I had my surgery Tuesday the 12th. I am paying out of pocket so I didnt use any pain meds and refused the meds they wanted to give me in the hospital. Really, I felt ok. My pain level was about a 4 and that was mostly gas. I tried walking around the unit but that did not help. My incision sites are sore and I still have slight gas pains. I kinda feel hungry which I didnt expect. Im on full fluids so I just had a cup of greek yogurt. Seems like everything went well and it was a fairly easy surgery and recovery. On a comical note, the hospital put me in a room with a lady who had lap band 6 months ago. She ended up being very sick with it so they took it out and now she has a bad infection. She was a very nice lady and we had a chuckle about her being my roommate but I would have preferred not to hear that story the day of my surgery. How long does it take for the soreness to go away? How long will I have these hunger pains? Is it safe to be walking outside 2 days after surgery?

worried

Hello! Today is my first day as a member of the site. I have been reading your messages for weeks now. I will be banded some time in September. I have 2 appointments to go. I am a self-pay. I'm getting very nervous because many of the posts talk about not much of a weight loss , being disappointed or being VERY hungry. Is the lapband worth all this money I will be paying? I have about 50lbs to lose. I love to work out but I also love to eat. I would asppreciate what anyone has to say. Thanks guys

I took your advise

Thank you to those who gave me some advise on whether or not to have another fill. I went in yesterday to talk to my surgeon and see about a fill. He was reluctant to give me a fill but said he would if I really thought I needed it. Its been 8 months and I have only lost about 30 lbs. I am 198 lbs and a size 12. I am a fanatic about my workouts ( I do 2 a day usually, high intensity)...but still I dont lose any weight. Since my unfill 2 months ago I have been able to eat whatever I want, slowly......sooooo...I have been. I eat clean 80% of the time but I have some form of sugar and fat every day. He told me that I need to be much more strict with my diet. The band only does a small portion and I have to do the rest. I realize that I am not that big , but for me, I would like to get back to a size 8 - and that is about 180 lbs. He put only .3 into my band and he said he would not fill me anymore. This requires a ridiculous amount of dieting and exercising for those of us who only need to lose 20-30 lbs. I think I have a lot of work to do! So, I must stick to 1000 cals a day even though I burn that much in my workouts. It seems strange but apparently that is what I need to do. Its ganan be very hard since Im so hungry.

Does anyone else get jealous?

I am more than 2 months post-op and I find myself feeling very jealous and envious when I read all these blogs. Seems like everyone is losing weight but me. I spoke at length with my doc about this and he said I am doing just fine. Since my surgery date I have only lost 1 lousy pound. I have had 2 fills now and I find that I am eating much less and sometimes I feel restriction and sometimes I dont. I currently lave 4.5 cc in the band. I love workouts so I dont have a problem there. My doc said that because I was smaller when I had the surgery ( size 16 and still am a 16) that it will take me longer to lose weight. He said I should expect to lose one pound a week. Ok.... but....I read over and over again that people are losing much more more than that. Has anyone else had an extremely SSSSLLLLOOOOWWWW weight loss? Does anyone have any words of wisdom?
