Time between....

I have my consultation in a week. I've already spoken with my insurance company about the surgery, and coverage should not be a problem :smile2:. I have been on a doctor prescribed diabetic carb controlled diet for the past three years, and believe it or not, have not lost weight, but maintained good blood sugars as well as my obesity. My BMI is 42, and I am a teacher with the summer off. I am wondering if it is possible to get to my surgery before school starts in late August.   What is the average time between consultation and band surgery? I will have a little time off during Christmas, but was hoping to have a good start by then.....want to start the New year shopping for new clothes, and feeling amazing.   Thanks!

My thoughts......

Today is my second day on this site, and I really love it. I am so excited. In a week from today, I go for my consultation. Through my research, I know that soda is a no no...I used to drink 3-4 bottles a day, and on the weekends, probably two two liters. I have gone 46 days without a soda....cold turkey. I drink green tea, water, and once in a while a G2.   I made my breakfast this morning, and for the first time really tried to watch my carbs....I am only allowed 60 a meal with my diabetic diet, and it worked. Lunch was incredible, too.   For supper, i am going to measure.....I am also practicing chewing my food and enjoying it....really tasting it. I am hoping because I have been under a doctor's diet for the past three years (counting carbs) it will boost my surgery date up.....I would really like it done before Christmas....I don't want to blow it all on Christmas dinner, and it would be really nice to start the New Year with a new body and attitude.   Have a great day!:smile2:

6'2 and shopping

I have my first consult next week, and have been nervous and excited since I made the decision to discuss it with my diabetic doctor. I just came from a mini vacation in Chicago, and felt so out of place. I was with my best girlfriend, and walking in Bloomingdales, Macy's, Nordstroms, etc....was just too much....I felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman....I felt like people judged me for even being in the store.....I touched a little black dress in a size 16, and can't wait to go back and buy it....   This is the biggest challenge of my life....my husband had an affair, and I put the blame on myself....no more. I am doing this surgery for my health and longevity. Im giving up my soda, my huge portions of food, and even with an amputation am willing to walk.....I have to do this.....:frown:   One of the most wonderful things I am looking forward to, is going shopping.....in my closet... I have sizes 14-26, and will be able to wear clothes I haven't even put on yet......can't wait.....Being a very tall girl, I also look forward to seeing what my feet really look like, and will paint my toes to match my outfit.

consultation questions....

Tomorrow is my lapband consultation.   1. I am wondering if I should take my husband, or go by myself.   2. Will I have to do any tests, or be weighed and measured?   3. What questions should I ask? My surgeon is well known for his bariatric services.   4. Approxmately how long will it take, and will I set up psych, nutrition appts then.     I am taking with me: pre registration material, 4 doctor visits about weightloss, and my last blood test from 2 weeks ago. Anything else????   Thank you so much....I am quite excited and nervous. Not sure I want my husband who is skinny, tan, and fit, to know about my most embarrassing topic of discussion.
