New Girl on the Block

I have a blog elsewhere that I have had for literally YEARS of my life. I'm not even kidding you when I tell you that I've consistantly blogged (at another site) for longer than I've been married (7.5 years).   I have some amazing friends there, but I fear that they may be getting tired of hearing of my surgery. I can't blame them, I've never been one to talk about one thing repeatedly (except maybe my child or my husband).   But anyway, here I am blogging here to keep my other blog friends from being annoyed. lol   A bit about me:   I'm 29 years old. I have been married since June 2002 to an AMAZING man, David. He's in the Army and very soon heading out on his 4th deployment (but first time to the big A). We have a 4 year old son, David Paul. He's vivacious and fun and gorgeous and the love of my life. He never fails to make me smile. We also have a 4 year old boxer named Horatio who stinks. lol.   I'm originally from Georgia (GO DAWGS!) and my husband is from Virginia (GO CAVALIERS!). However, we currently live in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Hoping to be here for about another 2 years then head off somewhere new, not sure where though.   Weight stuff. I've been overweight my entire life, but never horribly overweight, until after I had my son.   When I was pregnant, I ate and ate and ate and ate and ate and hardly gained weight. I remember once, I sat down because I was STARVING and ate 3 big macs and 2 large order of fries. It was SAD. lol. After my son was born, a healthy 7 lbs, 12 oz...I lost most of my 27 lbs that I gained during the pregnancy.   But I didn't stop eating the way I did when I was pregnant. I still ate like crap. Add on the fact that my husband was deployed, I just didn't care. I ate what I wanted, when I wanted.   I gained all the baby weight back..plus 16 extra pounds.   At the date of surgery, Dec 1st, 2009 (1 day after my 29th birthday) I weighed 216. Today, a week and 4 days later...I am 199!   Yay. I love my band!   I'm still sometimes sore with my incisions...and last night I had those awful terrible gas pains (in my shoulder). But mostly I'm just fine. And lovin' life right now!:tongue2:   -Miranda

where'd it go?

I have lost about 17 pounds in the 2 weeks since my surgery. I was a bit disappointed that I haven't really been able to SEE the weightloss, nor have I noticed it in any of my clothes. I read on here someone talked about losing 16 pounds and being able to put clothes into their "too big" section. I don't have one of those sections in my closet and so far none of my clothes want to make the plunge into being the first in that section. So, yeah, I was a bit disappointed. Until I looked at myself in the mirror today (really looked)...and realized that my face is a bit skinnier. And a ring that I originally bought to wear on my middle finger but has been being worn on my ring finger, right hand....now fits in it's originally intended spot. And my engagement ring...forget about it. It's waaaaayyy to big for my finger. Sure, I miss wearing it, I'm gonna go get one of those ring guards, but it's nice to actually NOTICE the weight loss. I have my 2 week post-op appointment tomorrow and I get to start eating pureed foods. So excited about that, since I miss eating hot foods. I'm tired of popcicles and cold shakes. non-weight stuff: I'm done with Christmas shopping! Wheeeeee!

Habits and Choices

Last night was my first real social situation since I had my surgery.   We're a military family, and since we're away from our familes, our little group of friends become our family. Last night we went to hang out with our usual group of friends.   This lady is an entertainer. She has the best food in the whole world. And she's such a hostess. For "snacks" she had chips and dip, fruit and dip, hot wings, pizza (yes, as a snack). And the alcohol flows freely, including my favorite beverage...chiltons...(vodka, lemon, soda water). Not to mention the dinner that she cooked (bbq chicken, macaroni salad, hotdogs for the kids, rice).   Now, to the abundance of infantry guys hanging around, they can eat all of that crap and it be NO problem. After all, almost none of them have a weight problem and they all run like 8 miles everyday.   However, to Miss Lapband over here...it was just temptation sitting right in front of me. lol   I did good though. I didn't snack. I drank a ton of water. I ate a healthy piece of baked chicken. And I woke up this morning on weigh-in day and was down 3 pounds from last week! Yes!   But thinking about my weight loss journey so far has made me realize how bad my eating habits were before. Before, I wouldn't have hesitated to eat those yummy doritos with ranch dip, and her macaroni salad is to die for! And I would had 2-3 chiltons, plus maybe a vodka and cranberry juice. I would have snacked on the pizza and had 2 pieces of chicken.   I see it at home too. I stand up and go to the kitchen and look in the pantry and look for something to eat. I end up not eating anything because I know it's just habit and not because I'm really hungry. I eat 3 meals daily (small portions) and a snack. And that's plenty!   To date I've lost 25 pounds. I got off track when I went back to eating solid food and gained about 2 pounds back, but now I'm headed in the right direction. Right toward goal.
