Newbie

A few months ago I attended the orientation for Lap Band. I must say I came out of there scared. Food getting stuck, band eroding, leaks that would mean replacement, etc.   So, over the course of the next few months - I've decided I'm going to do this anyway. Really it's no choice. heart bypass in a few years or do lap band now and have a high probability of not having the heart bypass.   But I'm still scared. How do you "unstick" food? Does it eventually go down?

thoughts

So tired of my weight. I'm 335 pounds. I've lost 20 pounds since May and gained 5 back. (What else is new?) Afraid I won't fit into booths eating out. Afraid of breaking a chair. Going to church and getting bruised on my belly trying to fit in the pew. Will I be able to fit in the movie theater chair? So much for roller coaster rides! Tired of ugly plus size clothing. Tired of worrying about a heart attach (which heart disease runs in my family). I carry my father in my head! Why don't you just loose weight. Eat less. Exercise. Not good enough. Why can't you do this. It just takes will power. It's an endless voice. And Dad is still alive, so I get to hear it in person too! Grew up with my mom always on a diet. Afraid that with the LB it won't matter. Once I got down to a size 11 and still looked in the mirror and saw a fat person. I know I have to work on my head with this too. My husband says he doesn't understand why I'm so big when I don't eat that much. What he doesn't understand is that I'm a binge eater. Will LB help me? Well, I hate throwing up....so I'm hoping it will.

Emotional Eating

Ok, I went on a binge Thursday. I went to the funeral home to support a friend who lost her great grandson. He was 3 months old when he died. It was so sad. My friend was in shock, as was the whole family. I went back to work and just started eating. Munching on anything. Ate dinner that night. Had a hot fudge sunday after dinner......

1st Meeting with Nurse

Had 1st meeting today. All about shopping, reading labels and such. Mostly already knew from the weightloss programs I've tried in the past. Nurse was really talking toward bypass patients with the dumping and such. However, I felt like I finally fit in with the other people in the room! When I go out and looking around I always feel like I'm the biggest one in this city!   I got a buddy on this web-site and today made an important decision. I decided to stop thinking about why I'm so fat. There are many reasons, most of which do not matter anymore. Thinking about the why's keep me stuck. It's like I'm waiting for a light bulb to go off in my head and then I'll be able to "fix" everything.   What matters is that I let it all go and move forward! And I'm ready to do that! So now my heart and my head are in sync.:tongue_smilie:

Insurance Bummer!

Talked to my insurance today. Found out that I have to be under 50 BMI to get lapband. Which means I have to loose 45 pounds on top of the 15 I've lost.   Now, if I could loose 60 pounds on my own....why would I need surgery!

1st Bariatric Support Group Meeting

Went to the meeting last night. Was surprised how many people were there! They must of all been hiding in their houses because I've been feeling like one of the biggest in my town! Ahhh, the feeling of belonging. Most of the people either had or were having Gastric Bypass. A few banders were there. Nothing swayed me to gastric bypass. One bypass patient talked to me afterwards and is 3 years out and struggling to keep the weight off. My thoughts were if it was a lapband she had, she could get a fill to help! This is when it truely sank in for me that this a tool and there are options for use.   I'm also one of those people that if it medically can happen, it will be me. So, my big concern is about the band erroding into my stomach. Then I thought, well if that happens I'll need major surgery and they can just do the sleeve or gastric bypass then!   One thought sticks in my mind. A patient on TV said that he would rather do this surgery and die trying to be healthier than just dying.

More than 10 years?

I was just wondering if anyone out there has had a lapband in place for more than 10 years? If so, are you having any problems?   Thanks for responding to my curiosity!
