Update on my progress

Well,,, all I can say is it's S L O W!!! On one hand, I'm sad that it's not going faster, but on the other hand, I'm eating ice cream and chocolate way too much sometimes. It's hard to break 19 years of bad eating habits and the band doesn't curb those cravings. If I had given MORE thought to getting a more detail surgery, I might have considered the sleeve. But it is what it is and at least I'm going in the right direction,,, be it slow or quick,,, I'll get there,,, by October of this year, if I want to be at my goal, I need to buckle down and try to get 13 pounds per month off. I can do it IF I work out! Wish me luck!!!!

Should I do lapband or should I not???????????

I'm really struggling with my decision to do lapband. I've read SO many of the blogs and it seems that everyone is having a very hard time with weight loss after surgery. I know lapband doesn't promote weight loss all by itself,,, but I really thought it was going to make it a little easier to not over eat. You know how it is at times,,, you go out to eat with friends,,, have friends over and you just seem to eat way more than you were actually hungry for,,, the band should stop this sort of thing,,,, or so I thought. Perhaps it's a struggle until the doctor get's your exact fill amount right? I'm just wanting something more than relying on my willpower,,, at 44 years of age,,, 3 kid's and my mother in law in the house with us,,, I seem to have lost the ability to rely only on willpower. I also have many friends that just plain don't want me to do the surgery,,, I have friends that tell me to do what I feel I should, some that support and a husband that is wonderful and says he will support whatever I do,,, perhaps the friends that are telling me to not do it are right? Maybe my gut telling me to do it is right???? O MY LORD,,, I'm SO CONFUSED!

September, My Surgery Month

One more month to go,,, I'm almost done with what my insurance required of me and I'm finding that I'm second guessing my decision to have the surgery. I hear of so many success stories, but it's the stories you hear about where someone has lost only 9 pounds in 5 months, or that they get sick very easily that get me worried.   SO,,, today I found this website and I'm looking forward to being able to hear more good stories to put my mind back at ease.   2 months and counting:thumbup:

Saturday morning

It's saturday morning and I just weighed in at 264! All I can say is WOW. I'm not sure what happened this past week, but I'm not eating as much and it seems the weight is coming off. Perhaps I was more busy with the kid's or God is answering prayers and helping me with my journey. I think that the last couple of pounds may put me in double digits of this weight loss goal instead of the triple digits!

Post-Op Psyc Appointment

Hello everyone:-) Well, it's down to the wire with me having all my things in line to turn into my insurance company. My doctor knew what Cigna would require, so he's had me taking care of that for the past 6 months. TODAY I have the Psyc appointment that Cigna requires. I'm a bit nervous,,, do they have to see that I'm not going to go crazy when I get thin? LOL Well, actually I will go a little nuts,,, buying new clothes!!! SO, has anyone had to do this sort of thing with the psyc doc? Just wondering what to expect when I get to her office.

Liquid Diets are horrible!

Well, today is almost over,,, leaving me with 6 more days to go. The liquid diet is kicking my butt,,, I do really good then I slip up a little with a bite of this or a bite of that. Today I ate a couple of things I really shouldn't have eaten and I'm feeling really bad about myself. I continue to pray for the strength to live on liquids with a side of green vegi's!

Before Surgery Physical

Today was my physical and blood work. My EKG came back a little off,,, but I've had one in the office before and it does that. I went last year and had the full heart testing done with the heart doctor to make sure, so I'm hoping my surgeon will feel that is good to go. I have a surgery date of October 21st and I really want to get this thing done. I go for my pre-op appointment on the 6th and then on the 7th I will start the liquid with green veggi diet for the 2 weeks before surgery! WOW,,, lot's to think about and to mentally prepare for,,,,,,,,,,so excited and nervous,,, should have never watched the video of a lapband surgery!

August 24, 2009 - My paperwork gots to Cigna!!!

Well,,, I've done all 6 months worth of pre-op requirements that included 1 doctor appointment each month for 6 months, I dietitian appointment and a psyc evaluation. Now, it's a waiting game for Cigna. I'm ok with this wait even though I'm very excited to get it done,,, it was harder I think waiting the 6 months and having to keep up with all the doc appointments.   My surgeon says Cigna has UP TO 45 days to send the approval letter,,, I'm hoping for less time,,, especially since it's 45 business days!   Hope to be back soon with more info:thumbup:

Approval day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, today I was adding up the days since my paperwork had gone to Cigna and I decided to just call them and see how their time frame was going. The guy said that I was approved and gave me an approval number! WOW,,, didn't know what to say, caught me off guard,,, in a most awesome way:-) It couldn't have come on a better day. After watching "The Biggest Looser" last night, I kept thinking today if I should go through with it or not. BUT,,, I said ta ta to all those thoughts when I got the confirmation from Cigna  :crying:

Anyone still waiting for their surgery?

Just thought I'd see if anyone out there was in the same time frame as me. I'm all done with what my insurance will require of me and I'm down to the waiting game,,, the insurance company can take as long as 45 days to approve,,, but I'm hoping with me doing all that they require before submitting it,,, I'll not have to wait so long.   I've heard so many stories on here,,, some not so good, but some very helpful. But I'm sitting here drinking my 2nd cup of coffee and wondering if there are any thoughts from people doing the waiting game as I am:-)   Have a wonderful day and hope to hear some comments soon:thumbup:

3 months since surgery!

Well, it's been 3 months since my surgery,,, well, actually tomorrow, Thursday the 21st will be my 3 month mark. I've lost 33 pounds and it's been SO slow. I actually lost 17 of the pounds on the 2 week liquid diet before surgery and 16 pounds since. WOW,,,2 1/2 months to loose what I lost in the first 2 weeks,,, but I guess that was a lot of fluid weight in those first 17 pounds. I have had 2 fills and am scheduled for my third which I hope is the charm,,, this coming Monday, the 25th. I do feel that I have the band,,, certain things stick, breads and rice. If I eat too fast without chewing it sticks and if I drink too soon after eating it sticks,,,, SO, that's progress I think, lol:-) At least I know the band is there,,, if it weren't for these little things, I'd swear he forgot to put my band in? LOL All in all, I'm still very happy I had the surgery,,, I might be loosing it slow until I get that good restriction that is referred to as the "sweet spot" but with every pound I loose,,, I'm more positive than ever that I'll never see that pound again!!!

2 Weeks since surgery

:rolleyes2:Well,,, today is my 2 week anniversary since surgery. It's 11:30, the same time 2 weeks ago that they were getting me ready to head into the surgery room. I've lost about 21 pounds,,, mostly the 2 weeks before and the couple of days after surgery. After I started mushy foods last week,,, I gained about 4 pounds and have gotten that back off this week. I think that with the body only having fluids and then going to foods,,, the weight goes up some,,, and with me, I started retaining fluids when I started eating foods. But, besides all that,,, went for my followup yesterday, Nov.3rd and everything is great,,, but I won't get my first fill till Nov. 23,,, 2 days before Thanksgiving dinner, lol. O well,,, I won't be complaining that I gained over the holiday now will I, lol:-) I will be going it alone for the next 3 weeks on my diet,,, alone meaning no help from my little band buddy. I wish I could have had some restriction yesterday, but I understand I need to finish healing. I'm excited for the first fill,,, and I pray that I feel it. After reading so many stories that people feel no different after a fill,,, it's a little troubling. O well,,, no one said it would be easy,,, but as hard as it is to diet,,, it will be all the more great when I get to my smaller size!!!:smile2:

2 days after surgery

Here I am, 2 days after surgery and I'm doing ok,,,lot of pain from the air they pump in you,,, chest and shoulder hurt way more than the cuts do. The port site give me a lot of discomfort when I need to cough or blow my nose,,, then of course, if I move wrong,,, but I'm sure it will be all worth it by the time this all passes. Although, yesterday, 1 day out from surgery I was really wondering why I had done this to myself,,, pretty miserable day it was. Took the pain meds, a suppository for nausia and slept very well in the recliner  I've been trying to sip on water, broth and some gello, but really not wanting to eat anything,,, doing it for the dehydration thing. Don't want that to happen,,, one hospital stay was quite enough thank you, lol:bored:

19 Days and Counting

Well,,, 4 days till my pre-op appointment, 5 days till my 2 week liquid diet begins and 19 days till my surgery! yaaaaaaaaaaaaaa me!   Haven't heard anything from my doc's office about the EKG so perhaps the heart doctor's paperwork from last year will be enough. I'm praying it is all fine and good and we are still on for Oct. 21st! Sorta like my new birthdate:-) The healthier and slimmer me!

13 Days to Surgery!!! :-)

Ok, so the liquid diet started on Wed. the 7th. Today is the 3rd day. I can only have atkins shakes, broth and green vegi's,,, O wait,,, I can have water, lol:-) It is SO hard,,, I fix lunch and dinner for my family and it takes everything I have to not eat some of their food. I did mess up yesterday and ate some of the chicken I was pulling apart for dumplings,,, and this morning, I was giving them ritz crackers and realized after the second one I wasn't suppose to eat them. I need many prayers to get through the next 13 days, the surgery and recovery time. I think the week that follows surgery will be a little easier than the next 13 days, lol. BUT,,, so excited to be to the end of my wait,,, after the next 13 days,,, I'll be on the other side of this journey!!!! yaaaaaaaaaaa me:thumbup:
