8 Months Post Op

Wow I can't believe that its 8 months down the track. My current loss is 24.5 kilos. I have significantly reduced the amount lost per week. Initially I was loosing 1kg plus per week, now its more like 500 grms per week. I have never put on at all which is amazing compared to all the other weight loss programmes I have tried before. Sometimes I have remained the same. I weight myself once a week and am seeing my specialist every 6 - 8 weeks. I am also amazed at just how long it has taken me to fully understand and work with my band. I have to go back and read my lap band book and remind myself of the basics - eating 3 times per day only - no snacking. EAT slowly - this is one I still struggle with as I am so use to being hungry and just hoeing in and learning to 'listen' to my body when it is telling me I've had enough. Being aware of the extra saliver that my mouth produces when I've had enough. It really is a journey and a learning process that takes time. I am soooooo glad I have had this done, but you need to be in the right head space to embrace this and make it a life long adventure to a more healthier you.

3 months post op

Well it has now been 3 months post op and my total weight loss is 17kgs ((37.4lbs). I have had two fills over the last month which didn't make a dramatic difference - very suttle. I am averaging 500grms per week now which my specialists is very happy with. I can't stress enough to those who are considering this surgery that this is a tool, a very good tool if you stick to the rules. It most certainly is not a magic cure to anyones weight issues. I still have to be really careful as to what I choose to eat and still have to avoid those foods that are sooooo yummy but I know are not good for me!! I try as much as possible to stick to the 3 meals per day - sometimes I fail and sneak something in but I think this is a really important 'rule'. I also am excercising reguarly which I am sure is assisting my weight loss. Am I happy I have done it - absolutely yes as I see this as a long term solution and am committed to achieving a good healthy weight. It's so good to be in control and moving in the right direction to gain control and finally get this excess weight off. I have started having people ask if I have lost weight which is nice and I have definitely dropped several sizes in jeans. My clothes are just looking better on me rather than tight and clingy. :blushing:

5 weeks post op

It has now been 5 weeks post op and to date I have lost a total of 11.5kgs (25lbs) which I am really very happy about. It has been quite a journey and I have needed to have patience just to let everything settle. It's quite nerve racking just not knowing what to expect - you can read as much as you can but there's nothing quite like experiencing it along the way. I certainly agree that the band is very much a 'tool' that you work with. Follow the golden rules and you will loose weight. I am very strict with just eating three meals per day and absolutely nothing inbetween - that means nothing - even one bite of anything!! I have struggled to keep up with the recommended fluid intake so have just settled on what I can manage and that seems to be fine. I am due to have my first fill in 12 days time and I am ready for that. I have noticed that I am thinking more about food and have got quite hungry at times. I seem to be able to be eating a greater volume too - something I was just totally unable to do in the early weeks after surgery. I am walking 5 days a week - usually for about 40 minutes - making sure my heart rate is increased - waste of time if thats not happening and I am going to the gym 2-3 times per week. Have found some food just does not sit well and so avoid it now - ie fresh bread (toast ok), doughy wraps, potatoes. Overall I am just so happy to be on my way and with a reasonably weight loss thus far is is just so worth it also knowing I am working toward a much healthier life is just great. :confused3:

2 Weeks Post Band

It will be two weeks tomorrow since I was banded. Everything has gone really well and I have followed by doctors advice and I can say I am almost back to feeling completely normal. Having had my gall bladder removed at the same time has added a little complication but its all good. I have moved on from totally soft mushy food and am still having soups for lunch but thats because I enjoy soup. At dinner time I'm having pretty normal food but of course much smaller portion. Im having porridge for breakfast but again that is because I enjoy it. I will have my weigh in tomorrow but up until last week I had lost 6.5 kgs (14lbs) but that also included two weeks prior to surgery on the optifast diet. Each day is a new day and I am slowly gaining confidence in what I am doing. Its a bit scary at first as I am pretty nervous about eating something thats going to get 'stuck' or is not good but so far so good. Because I've had my gall bladder out that has been great in terms of telling people that I've got to be careful what I eat because of having no gall bladder - suits me as only a very few people know what I have done and I'm quite a private person when it comes to my weight issues so its worked out really good. I do feel as though I am certainly on my way to getting the excess weight of permanently so I can feel and be a much healthier person. Yay - roll on the next few months!!

7 Days to go!

This time next week I'll be having my band fitted - freaked out a bit last night - I guess I am just anxious that it all goes well. Have found this forum so incredibly helpful. I have now been on the optifast for 7 days and I weighed in for the first time this morning and I've lost 3.5kgs which I am really happy about. Considering the amount of food I'm eating I should be loosing!! I can't say it's been easy. The first few days I was just mentally geared up and ready to go. I did experience headaches at night and during the day and felt quite nauseated. Am really surprised just how I can get by on such little food I guess the protein shakes work! The headaches/nausea has diminished as the week has gone on. So one week to go - I can do this!

10day to go!

I am on day 5 of my pre-op optifast diet. I have found this weekend quite difficult as I'm vertially eating nothing and just surviving on the shakes. I did make some vegetable soup which was OK - not my usual yummy soup but it was a nice change. I'm really enjoying discovering this Lapband forum and reading about other peoples experiences. I am so excited about the prospect of getting this weight off. I have to have my gall bladder out at the same time as my banding as I have gall stones - hope that doesn't complicate things. Counting down...
