Time is standing still..

The time is going by sooooo slow. I go back to the endocrinologist... on 7/28/2009. Thyroid surgery will be in August.   I am so happy each time I read that someone has been approved. I so hope it will be me one day soon.   This is on my mind all the time. I'm contantly on the internet reading other peoples experiences and what life will be like on the other side of surgery.   I am so ready!!

Still Weak from the flu....

Well, I'm very weak from the swine flu. It's the second week. The sickness part is gone but I have NO ENERGY!! I had a little more energy today. I didn't have to stop but twice on the way in from the parking lot to the office this morning. I do not want to have surgery until I get my energy back. I called the doctors office and asked them if they had been notified by UHC that I was approved. The ins. cleck said she had been very busy and didn't know. She said why don't you fax what you have. I did that today. I didn't hear anything from them. Clearly, they must have a LOT of patients because I'm not a priority. I wonder if I ever called them again if they would care. Oh well... I need to concentrate on getting better and I would like to find a support group in my town. I have been so consumed with working on the ins. appeal that I'm afraid I've forgot everything I knew about how to eat after surgery. I want to research that and find a protein shake I can drink and get some things in the house that will be OK to eat. With the Swine Flu, I lost over 11 pounds in a week. It was a really bad way to loose but they're gone just the same. I'm working hard to eat right and keep this weight off.   I'm tired so I'm closing. Hope you are doing well!!

Still researching..

I am reading posts at several websites and trying to decide which surgery is right for me. My choices because of ins coverage is the RNY and lapband. I beleive I understand the differences. When I visited my surgeon and he asked me many questions we decided on the RNY but the more I read the more I have to think about. I really apprecitate everyone taking the time to give their views on the different surgeries. The doctors know a whole lot but there is information to gain from someone who has been there first hand. Thanks to all of you for sharing your views. :cursing:

Roadblocks aren't going to stop me!!

My PCP is requiring I get clearance from my Endocrinologist. I have learned I have to have surgery to remove my thyroid before I can proceed with weight loss surgery. I'm on thyroid meds until end of July and hope to have the numbers down where they can remove my thyroid in August. I'm one the few lucky people that has hyperthyroid and are overweight!! :mad2:   This week I met with the Nutritionalist and physical therapist. I have the appointment for the psyc exam this next Monday June 15th. Looking forward to getting one more thing behind me. One more stop toward the goal!! So when I get this thyroid thing taken care of.. We should be able to send the paper work in... to United Health Care. I keep thinking.. they can give me a chance to have a life so different.. increase the length and quality of my life. Their decision can affect my childrens life. By feeling better I may be able to have a longer career. I keep hoping... I will be one of the lucky ones that gets approved!!!

On my way..

Hello!   I'm 52 years old and after being overweight all my adult life, I've decided to finally do something that I hope will provide a permanent solution.   I live with my twelve ( and a half year old son) and I am the only breadwinner so... it's very important that I get insurance approval. I have United Health care with a very high deductable... thanks to changes my company of 25 years sees as progress.         I've attended two lap band seminars and have seen my PCP to get his input. He says he will help me get approved by providing the documentation. I have my first appointment on May 30th with the surgeon. I hope to get things moving. I'm told by the insurance that it will take several weeks to get an answer after the documention is provided. I am so committed. Whatever the ins. company says I need to do.. I will do .. so my journey has started and I will post my progress as I wade through the sea of rules and paperwork to get to the beach I long for.   One of my top 10 on my bucket list is to wear a one piece swin suit on the beach without a coverup and feel good. :crying:   I want to be able to sleep without sitting up. Have sex without feeling like I'm going to have a heart attack or smother to death. I hope to get off high blood pressure medicine and be able to have more energy so I can spend more time with my son. I hope this will help my asthma. I would like to let myself be photographed (full length). I've read several other posts which have been very helpful. I, too, look around the room to find I am the largest person in the room. I feel guilty eating in front of people. I can so relate to this group..   I long for the day when I can post my progress.. There are so many little things things I want to do. The rest of my bucket list will follow..   :rose:I'm ready to get started on this journey!!   Nechole

Back to the doctor..

I went to the ENT today.. He says my acid reflux is causing my constant cough. And I thought it was my asthma... I asked them if the weight could be causing this.. and the answer was "oh, yes." Yet another reason I'm going to feel better when this surgery is behind me.   Right now I don't feel so good.. and the time is standing still especially at work...   We going to Florida for the first week in August. I'm looking forward the the rest. I hope to walk on the beach in the morning and the afternoon.   I'm going to read some of your blogs.. I hope someone got good news today!!

Another hurdle...

I was denied today.. BAD NEWS!!!!   My UHC does cover the surgery with BMI OVER 40 with five year weight history. I had 4 BMI over 40 and one year at 35.5 (when I took diet pills.) I do have high blood pressure and Acid reflux but I was still denied. The doctor is going to write a letter stating this is medically needed and Lori is going to fax it to them tomorrow.   I am wondering if this will be enough...

A half step closer..

Sort of good news today!! I got all the weight history to Lori in Dr. Dewitt's office. I'm so glad to have that complete. All the weights were over 35 bmi with my comorbities... she says it looks good. I didn't have 2004 but I had 2003 2002 and 1998...   She can't file the UHC until next week because she is doing clinicals so it will be the week after next. The waiting will be terrible but at least I'm one step closer, right!! :smile2:
