Busy busy busy

Hi all, I haven't posted in a while. Been kinda busy getting all of my testing done and out of the way. So far I have passed my psych evaluation! Whew, all of those questions drove me crazy! LOL - i have also passed my cardio exam which included a stress test (uuuggghhh) - at least the blood is flowing. Last but not least, i had to have a respiratory test done - while i breathe just fine, the problem is i have sleep apnea ! Yeeeaaah- another comorbity ! i was fine with all of the breathing exercises but the sleep test was a bit much:sad:. i felt like a caged animal with people looking at me. i barely slept at all - then i was diagnosed and had to have another test to measure oxygen levels - this one was much better - i used the cpap machine this particular night and slept much better. i had my 2nd weigh in on may 14 - i was down 5lbs - i was told to only loose 9lbs during my insurance required 6month supervised diet. i have my next weigh on 06/18. i am slowly gathering up my medical records. i will be done with everything by september - hoping to be banded sometime in october. i am well on my way

What a weekend!!!

Hey all, i had my final 2 summer bbq's this weekend and boy was it big fun. party 1 - a housewarming - scooped my food out of pans with tablespoon. literally had a spoonful of food! -greens, chicken leg and sweet potatoes - it took me two sittings to finish this little bit of food. my children are amazed at how little i eat now. they keep offering me food but my little son will say "are you allowed to have this?" LOL:wink:- i had just a little of everything at this party and i was just fine - i had a fellow bandster there with me but i think she is band abuser. her plate was full of food... i tried to discuss eating with her but she was also the hostess - so she was busy. :tt1:   Party 2 - more of the same - very small portions - my son asked me if i wanted to taste a piece of cake he had " oh wait momma, can you have cake?" LOL:lol: - i did make one bad move though - i was talking to my daughter and stuck a piece of chicken in my mouth and forgot to chew! it was stuck, stuck, stuck - i bee lined to the bathroom and tried to bring it up and out but i had to let it sit and it went down - it hurt like HELL though. :huh2: (hence all of the smiley emotions) ~~   i went out looking at gyms on friday - my hubby agreed to go with me since we found a gym that is $32 per month for a couple. i will call the dr's office today to see when i can start working out. i have been walking around alot because it is homecoming shopping season... my 16yr old is mall walking me to death! Back to work this week though - i sure enjoyed staying home these last 3 weeks.   i haven't focused too much on my weight - although i can say i am teetering under 260 right now but not to be excited because i know the best is yet to come.   first fill is 10/07 - i am not eating alot now - i think it is my mind that is scared of overeating. i also start to get a sensation in my left shoulder when i think i have eaten too much... does anyone else experience this?   thats all for now! have a great week everyone.

Dr.'s Visit scheduled

Yesterday I received a phone call from the surgeons office to set up an appt.. i called back this morning to find out what the appt was for and when i could get in - the nurse said that itwould be for my first consultation .. She said that BCBS/IL does cover 80% of my surgery and the consult would be to go over my general health and to discuss whtat BCBS/IL would need me to do in order to cover the cost of the surgery. I couldn't get in to see the surgeon until 02/25/09- that is about 1 month from now, so until then, i will be waiting to hear more. I guess I am on my way and i know there is still a very long way to go!:cheatfree:

Letter from insurance

Today I received a letter from bcbs/il about the necessary procedures to be deemed medically necessary... The letter was everything I expected from reading all of the posts on LBT but when I turned it over,it stated I needed 12 months of supervised dieting- I liked to died on the spot!! I called them right away only to learn that I was sent an old version of the letter and it is in fact only 6months needed. WHEW what a scare. I have a question- are you supposed to loose a lot of weight on the clinical diet? What exactly is the insurance looking for during the 6 mont period? Any help would be appreciated!! Only 22 days left to my consult-BTW - BCBS/IL is sending me a new corrected letter!

Dr's Visit

I finally went to my first Dr. visit with Dr. Lahmann in Joliet IL. It went well. He asked some questions and suggested the band for my particular needs. While I was there, he gave me a list of people i need to see while i am preparing for the surgery and fulfilling my insurance companies 6 month diet obligation. I meet with the nutritionist in 6 weeks - must be a high demand clinic since it takes soo long to get appt??? but once i meet with the nutritionist, the ball will be officially rolling  when i went in on 02/25 - is was 5"3, 290.5lbs with a BMI of 51.5 - my PCP just put me back on BP meds for the next 6 months.   Psych eval and cardio - 03/06/09 Nutritionist and Pulmonary - 04/07/09

1st fill~ doing just fine

Hi all, Happy friday! I got my first fill on Wednesday and it is working just fine  - i have an 11cc band and he put 5cc's in - i thought that was a bit aggressive but you best believe i ate very little yesterday. i have noticed that it is tighter in the morning- i get full of of a cup of yogurt now.. yesterday i only ate 870 calories but i got in 64 grams of protein. i also had a nutrition class on Wednesday - the office wants us to gradually add things back into our diet - unfortunately i have been eating veggies and some of the things that they said should come later on. I met a bunch of great gals that were all banded around the same time as me and we all had our first fill together (making it a bit easier). i was on liquids for the rest of the fill day and back to regular food on Thursday. I have lost 34lbs so far and it feels good. i am no longer snoring when i sleep! i realized that i don't wake myself up anymore during the night. i am down to an 22 in pants and my bra size has decreased. - Overall i feel really good about my self and my decision to get banded.:thumbup::thumbup:

Its almost time!!!

hey all, i am getting so nervous.. I am scheduled for surgery on tuesday at 11:45 a.m.. I am on my 2 week pre op diet now, i have done pretty well so far. i promise that chicken broth has to be the most boring food ever. i have been having it between lunch and dinner with a couple of crackers. i have lost about 14 lbs so far! yeah for me!!! i ran into the nurse from my clinic in the store the other day just as i was going to try to find something to eat! LOL she told me to have the hot dog without the bread--god i love bread and buns!!!:tt1: she said it i have lost 15lbs by tuesday, i would have done well.. i have a couple of days left and i will loose either 15 lbs or more than that. i have been getting used to eating less.. i kinda find myself talking about my husband because he eats so much... is this normal?? i don't want to be to critical of him because he is already self concious about his weight. anyway the next couple of days are all about me - going to a labor day bbq tomorrow.. i am going to have a small plate of food , but not too much - then monday i will be back to jello and broth - Tuesday is my big day! i am so excited.. my mother and husband will be my support team. Actually my mother is going to stay with me for a week. i have 2weeks and 3 days scheduled off from work - wanted to be back in time for employee appreciation party. i am really anticipating getting rid of my blood pressure meds and this cpap machine. it feels so good to get on the scale and be down from 283 to 268. Alrighty, i am rambling - going to eat my chicken breast and spinach... i will check in wednesday when i get home from the hospital....

Starting out!

Hi all, I am just starting out on my journey and will definitely need support. Since I decided to do the research on the lap-band procedure, I have been checking out this site. I have gained some valuable insights from everyone here. Today is my first official day starting my new way of life- I have waited and wondered many years about the surgery but never had the guts to actually pursue it until now. This morning I went to a center by my house for a seminar. My DH went with me and I appreciate him for it. I am officially nervous about my insurance (BCBS/IL) having read all of the info here.my next step is to fill out my paperwork and get it back to the surgeons office. The surgeon said they do the six month diet in their office bcause they know what theinsurance companies need.I am getting a little excited at the thougt of being less than 300lbs.I have been overweight my whole life but after my 3kids, it really went down hill...I have a BMI of 51 and hypertension! I will post as I make progress..

4 days post op~~~

Hi all, i am officially 4 days post op and i actually feel good. my surgery was a breeze, i remember telling my DM and DH i loved them, maybe a tear or two and then i was waking up! my dr. said my liver was perfect and the surgery went very well. i had to stay overnight in the hospital - which is annoying bcause you don't get any rest. i was up and walking to the bathroom maybe 4 hrs after surgery. i did have a sliming episode in the hospital - it involved chicken broth....:smile2: i have 5 scars -4 small and 1 big. i have some slight discomfort on the left side under my ribcage but other than that, not so bad. i have been taking my pain meds only 2 times a day - enough to relieve the discomfort that i have been having. My DM was here for a week, i love her, she made me all kinds of mushies before she left to go home today. i had to do liquids for only 3 days and then over to mushies. the only thing is, i don't know when i am full vs what is gas?? I have been eating 1 cup of food at each sitting, breakfast an scrambled egg with bits of ham and cheese, lunch some turkey salad and dinner, mashed potatoes and small bits of chicken. i have 11 days of mushies and then on to regular food. i went for a 40 minute walk today - i ran short of breath before it was over, but i made it - i have to make it a habit to walk around my subdivision at least once a day until i pick a gym to go to. so far, no problemsthough. i will spend the next week off of work trying to work out some short term goals.   First fill is 10/07 - a little nervous but i think i will be fine. Question - is it normal for your mushies to come right back out after you eat? i experienced that yesterday - i would eat, wait 30 mins, drink a bottle of water and would have to run to the bathroom.   thanks for listening and any feed back will be good. any other 09/08 - bandsters, it would be good to hear about your experiences...

Nervous - I guess??

Hi all, yesterday i attended my pre op nutrution, excersie and surgery seminar (3.50 hrs) - after leaving that class i felt overwhelmed with everything the nurse had spoken to us about. She was very informative about pre op and post op nutrition. i didn't realize that i would need to take vitamins everyday to get the proper nutrients (not really a big deal, but a small detail that i missed). i learned a couple of new things but mostly what she spoke about i had already learned from this site. (thanks guys ) - once i left the class, i started questioning if this was right for me? would i be able to stay committed to this new life style? i even started questioning whether or not i was doing it for the right reasons?? today i am dealing with what i think is anxiety of possible failure:confused:. i have the support i need and i know i will be okay, but i am very nervous at this point. My band date isn't until 09/08 - so i still have time to prepare - i start my 2wk pre op diet on 08/24 - am i normal to feel anxious?

Paperwork Submitted to BCBS IL TOMORROW!!!

Hi all, it has been a while since i last posted but here goes... Since my last post, i have been trying to sleep with my CPAP machine - I hate this device, i feel like i am gasping for air each time i use it.. now this $2300 machine is collecting dust sitting on my nightstand. i have to take the card out and take it to the sleep people for monitoring next week- i am sure they are not going to be pleased with my non progression. Any way, i weighed in for the 4th time last week. i was down a total of 6lbs. I went in thinking oh well i have to do this only two more times and it will be over.... then the nurse at the surgery center said she had good news! The first piece of good news was that BCBS was lowering their standards and you only had to do the diet for 3 months instead of 6! :smilielol5: so with that being said, she said "you are in month 4 and i have your psyche evaluation" -which i passed - so i think you have met all of BCBS IL's requirements - i am submitting your paperwork for approval on 07/30 - WOOO HOOO!!!!! That is 2 months sooner than expected!!!:hurray: NOW I WAIT!
