Uh oh, time to quit spagetti o's

Well I gained a pound....and I'm sure it is partially water retention, but also the fact that mushies mean starch to me.   I should have done a little more prep and research on mushies that weren't loaded with carbs, but I didn't, so in they went.   Two days to my first fill, and that should really help....that and I will be strictly low carb from that point on, until I get to goal weight.

Time of an unfill or something.

After my last fill, I have found that my food intolerances have gotten a little out of control.   Before, I just couldn't eat left over dry meat. Now I'm having trouble with other things. It seems totally random. One day, I have no problems, the next, I can't seem to eat anything without getting stuck.   It is getting really annoying. I'm going back on creamy food for a day or two, and see if it clears up, if not, I think it is time of a little unfill? It is only 19 days to my normal appointment, so maybe it will get better???   Just very frustrating right now. It doesn't help that the scale hasn't moved down in the last 8 days either.

This should be a great work out week.

Well, I'm all caught up on my yard work for the spring, and I actually have a little bit lighter work week coming up.   So I'm hoping to get 15 hours of, stationary bike, walking, and weights in this week.   I am also wanting to do a marathon on the threadmill. So the first time I get an entire day off, and don't have anything I have to do, I'm going to hop on the treadmill and walk. I figure I can walk at about 3 miles per hour for 10 hours straight and be done.   I was inspired by by the biggest loser and the old RNY guy making it with a bad knee and shoulder. I have a bad knee also, but not as bad as his.   I know I can do it!!!!! I think it will be fun, but I will report my findings when I get done doing it.

The Mystery of where the band starts at for fill level?

Well had my first post op follow up visit today, and they told me that the AP lapband comes with some fluid in it. It is so inconsistant that they don't try to say how much it starts with.   Instead on Feb. 17, I will get my first fill and they will start by taking out whatever is in there to see what I have. The final goal will be to have 4cc total after my first fill and still have a good result on the flouroscope.   I think this explains the real reason so many people feel so different before the first fill. It is basically because on top of the differences in people, the band itself doesn't have the same exact start point?   I am now on mushies, but I still like my soups. I can eat about 6 cups of food a day now.   It has been one day short of a week and I'm feeling almost completely normal otherwise. I do get tired a little easier then normal, and my back has been a little achey, but I'm feelling great otherwise.   I really like my fill nurse. She is a great lady and everyone at the place where I go for follow up care is really nice.   They will also do fills and aftercare for people who did not get surgery from them. I think that is a sign of a great facility. I can't believe some of these places won't.

The frustration of a plateau

Well, my weight loss has been bouncing for the last 2 weeks. I have started going up a couple of pounds and then down a couple of pounds.   I know the problem isn't so much my calories eaten as it is my excercise level. I started to swim again, and got a terrible cold for the last week.   I think with some regular excercise this week, I should be able to push through this. I really want to lose another 20 pounds in the next two months, so I'm going to have to get some excercise to get my metabolism going.   I will start today by walking for a couple of hours, and maybe a short swim.

Still no weight loss....maybe even weight gain?

Well, this the longest I have gone without any weight loss. In fact I'm up a pound. I am trying to up my calories a bit for awhile and then bring them back down, just to fool my body.   This is so frustrating....I was losing 2 or more lbs a week for a long time, and now in the last 10 days, I have gained 1lb.   I'm tighter then the past, so, I'm going to use a little hot water to help in the morning. I am thinking about just changing my food routines as much as possible to get things going.   I'm going to pretend like the 1lb gain is muscle this week. There now I feel much better.

Still loving my bodybugg and it seems to be helping me

Well I'm doing good on the eating and my restriction is still pretty good.   I can't say enough about how much the bodybugg has worked for me. I like the calorie counter and it seems to be helping me to now be more motivated to excercise. It just seems more rewarding to see the excercise do something for me each day in my calorie defecit versus just waiting for the scale to change. And it is still really helping me to properly track my calories and I'm even starting to make better food choices because of it. Man, I sound like a commercial for BodyBugg. I have heard about another product and I will post the name of it....it is suppose to be more accurate and a lot cheaper....but I can't remember the name of it right now.   I have always liked aspargus, but now that I see the calorie count, I LOVE asparagus!!!   Anyway, I have been running about 2600-2800 calorie burn per day, as apposed to about 2200 before the bodybugg, and I'm now eating about 1200-1300 calories a day and not going over by a couple of hundred a day. If the bodybug helps me continue to do these things, it was worth every penny and more.   Going out to eat tonight and I already know what I'm going to order, because I have 600 calories to eat, and I know I can have some soup, grilled salmon, and asparagus for that kind of calories.

Steady but sure, I'm gaining weight.

Well, I got home from being gone all week. Man, being in a hotel room all week away from my routine and my food made it really tuff.   I am still doing ok for morning, but night time is like not having a band at all. I can eat anything at night and pretty much at any speed.   It's a good thing I get a fill on tuesday, because the food is going right through at night.   I sense that I'm one of those people who will be very very tight in the morning in order to be at the right restriction in the evening. The evening is when I fall, so if it does work out that way, I'll be just fine.

Shrimp...the ulitmate diet food?

I just had 8 shrimp and one tablespoon of coctail sauce.   The total calories were about 300, and I got about 40grams of protein.   I hope I continue eating shrimp when I get more restriction....it seems like a great way to get my protein and have low fat and calories.   Heck, 42 grams of protein via New Whey bullet is 190 calories.   It's funny my new style of eating is more of a strategy of how much protein can I get with the lowest amount of calories and fat.   The rest just seems to take care of itself, if I'm trying to get my protein in and I'm watching the calories and fat.   I'm lucky....I haven't had a fill yet and 8 shrimp do fill me up.

Should I be worried? Whats really going on?

I'm having my surgery at the WLSC in Kansas City on the 14th. They called me today to tell me that the original Dr. (Dr. Nigro) had a problem and wouldn't be able to do any surgery for about 4-6 weeks. So they wanted me to go with another Dr. I guess it doesn't bother me too much, but it does make me wonder, what is really going on? They said he had an accident??? I don't really want to start my preop diet again, and I don't really want to wait that long, so I'm planning on going ahead with the other surgeon. I wish I could remember the name of the surgeon.

Set a new record one day calorie defecit!!!

Yesterday, I was able to burn 3900 calories and only eat about 1300....a 2600 defecit!!!!   That is a new one day record for me.   Today, I am eating out twice, first the Long John Silvers grilled salmon and baked potato, and tonight I'm having Papa Murphy's Med. delite pizza.....so I can eat out, if I just make the right choices and the band helps me not eat too much!!!   I'm going to get another day of 3 hours of light walking and biking and then 45 minutes of moderate swimming, so it should be another big defecit day!!!!   I'm down to 213.....I would really like to make it to 205 at the end of this month....that will put me half way to goal in 4 months and keep me right on schedule.   Yesterday was the first time I had to drink a little hot water before I could eat my chicken for lunch, but that was pretty ideal really, it kept me full much longer, and made dinner so much easier to control myself.

Results after one month of tracking in and out

I have now tracked everything I have eaten for one month. I also, tracked, via the bodybugg everything I have burned.   I'm just a little bit disappointed. The calorie defecit should have resulted in a 12lb loss for the month. I officially only lost 8lbs during this period.   It could be that I gained 4lbs of muscle??? I did maintain and average of 2 hours a day of excercise, so maybe? But I think it is most probably a combination of the bodybugg over estimating my calorie burn by 2lbs and maybe 2lbs of muscle.   Overall I'm pleased, but I was really hoping to make it to halfway to my goal this week. but maybe next week??   I did get a fill today, and I was able to take another 1cc. The last fill lasted well, and I think this one will last even better.

Restriction gone, but maintaining weight

Well the swelling in my stomach has gone down and I have virtually no restriction. Along with the fact that I am now on mushies, this makes things more difficult. I am now eating about 2 cups of food at a time, because it pretty much slides right through.   I know I am just healing and not trying to really lose weight, so it is all ok with me. I am happy that I'm not gaining, and doing well.   I have my first fill in the next 10 days sometime, so all is good.   My incisions are almost healed. They only have a tiny red line left to them and the swelling has almost completely dissappeared. The incisions will hardly show when they are completely healed.

Really stuck for the first time-left over meat

Well, I was eating left over salmon the other day, and for some reason, it got stuck. I think it being left over it is just too dry? Well normally, stuck isn't all that bad, but this time it was horrible.   I had to wait a couple of hours and it actually, pysically hurt. Then finally it started to subside, and the went away. Afterward, I could just barely sip warm water until everything started to go back to normal. I was getting really worried that I would have to go to the hospital when it didn't clear right away. It was late friday and my local fill doctor was already gone.   I will never eat left over meat like that again.   I went back on liquids until the swelling from the barfing went down. Its been about 30 hours and I can tell I'm pretty much back the way I was and am ready to eat normal again.

pre op diet working

Well, as is usually the case for me the diet is pretty easy. My low carb diet is going well and I'm down to 239. I have never really had trouble with diets, just trouble keeping it off afterwards.

Post fill and waiting to see how it turns out.

Well, I already feel about the same as I did before the fill.   Don't get me wrong, I had some restriction before the fill, and adding 1cc made me not able to swallow water during the fill....so we took out .5cc.   But, now two days later, I feel back to completely like I did before the fill. Not totally, without restriction, but I'm thinking I'm not at my sweet spot yet. Of course, I personally believe the sweet spot moves with weight loss anyway.   I'm limiting my intake to one cup of food at at time and I'm back on regular food tomorrow, so we will know more then.   I'm at 222 right now. My original goal was 145, but after telling people I want to get down to 145 and seeing the reaction, I'm thinking maybe I should just shoot for 160. Everyone is definitely against seeing me down to 145?? I'm 5'9", so this would be in the low normal range....I guess time and effort will decide it partially.   I was cleared to start swimming again, which I already started and love. I may be fat but I can swim like the wind blows. I swim a 600 in the same time that is expected of an 18 year old certifying for being a lifeguard, so I love it. Just think how fast a slimmer me will be in the future.

Oh yea!!! My first real plateau!!!

Well, a little more then a week and I'm at the same weight. It isn't as fun as when your losing 2lbs a week.   I know, why. I haven't been doing my regular workout routine because I have been working more, and it is that time of the year when I have to do extra work in the yard.   Yard work should in theory help, but it doesn't seem to do as much as they say it does????   Well, I have to go finish planting the day lillies in the front yard.

Oh great, now I'm getting tighter right before my fill

Well last night was the first night in two weeks I felt any restriction while eating dinner. Unfortunately today is my second fill. I hope this up and down nature of restriction is too much to deal with long term.   I also think that a lot of my weight gain was from eating soup at the hotel restaurant last week. I think this because in the two days since I got back I dropped 3lbs? That has to be water weight, so I'm thinking the soup had a lot of MSG in it or something?   I say all of this because it could be that the MSG also was making me retain water and making my restriction less? It could all be related?   I am predicting a .5cc fill today? I know I am still not at as good of a point as I was a week after my surgery, so I know I'm really not to the sweet spot right now.

New exercise plan paying off??

Well, we should know soon? My body bug says I am burning 3200-3400 calories now that I'm doing the fat burning exercise for 3 hours a day and the weights for 1 hour.   I just got a fill today of 1cc, so I should be able to easily stay at 1200 calories of intake. That's a 2000 calorie defecit per day average. At that rate I should be able to maintain my 2.5lbs pers week goal. Thats what I need to do right now to make my 160lbs on October 1st.   My knee is a little sore, but I'm actually holding up great. I can do this, I can feel it!!!!!!!!

My sweet spot has been reached.

Well, so far so good. I had my last fill 4 days ago and was back on regular foods for the last two days.   I think my band is perfect now. I tend to eat yogurt for breakfast and it goes down with just a little bit of slow down. Lunch is a tiny bit tight, and supper is perfect. I'm now down to about a cup of food at supper time....which is when I really need the help to stay on track.   It looks like I will be able to maintain 1000-1200 calories pretty easily now. I was averageing a couple of hundred more then that before the fill. It doesn't sound like much difference, but thats almost half a pound a week difference.   I have cut back to about 10 hours of excercise a week. I'm really busy at work right now, and the reduced calorie intake should make it all equal out.

My first unfill....

Well, yesterday, the tightness just got worse. I couldn't even swallow something that was half the size of a pea. I got stuck and it down right hurt.   I went in today, and got some of my fluid taken out. They removed .5cc, to take me back to 5.8 total.   I am on liquids right now, in hopes that I can get rid of any swelling and with the unfill, be just about right.   We shall know in a couple of days. I know I will be happier this way, but I'm guessing I will be needing to execute some more self control at night again. That's ok with me, I don't want to be stuck again!!!! Not that kind of stuck.   Were thinking I probably scratched my inside when I ate some grilled hamburger last week, and with the inflamation that occured afterward it just kept getting worse.

Jaffa

My first fill is over!!!

Well, I found out today what a fill is like. Not bad at all.   I also found out that my 10cc band had 2.8cc in it from surgery day.   I really wanted another 1cc, even though the fill person, looking at my barium swallow, thought I should have more like .5cc.   After putting it in, I was too tight, so she took .5cc back out, and I'm pretty much perfect now.   I feel really sorry for those who don't have a fill to start from the surgeon. Heck, I think I'm already to my sweet spot for my current weight!!!   I was really worried about my weight loss, but the scale showed 10lbs since my visit 3 weeks ago, so I'm doing just right. I feel so sorry for those who struggle for months on end to get to this point. I have heard the realize band takes much longer to get to this spot....so I'm super glad I picked the APlapband.

Morning just right, evening meal is quite a fright

Well, my band is close but no cigar yet. I feel perfectly restricted in the morning, but so loose at night that I could eat anything.   This morning I ate at the breakfast buffet at the hotel and I was so happy to only want a cup of food. I took an entire plate of food out of habit, but just left it.   My problem right now is at night everything is pretty much slipping straight through. I could eat just about as much as I want, but am trying to control myself until my next fill. I will get my next fill next week.   ONE thing I have realized, is that for me getting a fill in the afternoon versus the morning is going to be a must. I wouldn't mind being so tight in the morning that I can just drink a protein drink, as this is all I usually have time for anyway, but dinner time is when I really need to be in complete control with a band. Getting the fill in the afternoon should get me closer to ideal restriction for that time of day.

I hate birthdays.

This weekend was another birthday party. While I am careful to never exceed what I burn for the day, it is difficult. I only burned about 400 calories more then I ate.   Not a good start to the week, but I'm still hoping for the 3lb loss that gets me to the halfway point!!!!   I'm going to really have to bust some ass this week, hopefully work doesn't get in my way.
