Sadness & the sleeve

Recommended Posts

I am 4 weeks post op and going through the same thing...I though my anxiety/depression was under control. Unfortunately I feel it coming back with a vengeance and it really scares me.

Are you seeing someone about it? It is probably a good idea to. I am sorry you are going through this because it really sucks and zaps all motivation and energy. Try to take each day at a time. Feel better and focus on the reason why you took this step...to get healthy. We must also take care of our minds too otherwise we can never truest be healthy.

I had PTSD with a ton of depression and anxiety. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend a book called The Mood Cure by Julia Ross. Through years of therapy I was able to function in the world. It wasn't until I started the therapy in the book that I became a happy person. Three months later I was a totally different person. The amino acid therapy actually changes your brain's ability to experience positive emotions. I wish I had the book 30 years ago and saved myself a lot of pain. I was very skeptical at first so I got the book at the library and bought the smallest bottles of aminos I could find. It took about 3 days and I was sold on it...things changed THAT fast!

Wow! Am I ever glad that I read your post. I have suffered from depression and anxiety since I was about 9 years old and have been on every medication known to man. I have found the medication combination that has worked for me for some time and I see a therapist on a regular basis. I am a therapist myself which means I tend to spend way too much time in my own head over analyzing everything. But I am going to find this book and see what it can do for me. Thanks so much for sharing.

I take Xanax and Wellbutrin too. I have not noticed a huge difference post surgery. Those and my Vitamins are the only Meds I take. You are not alone. Mostly my job causes me the anxiety and depression. I truly am convinced after I retire I will no longer need either of them.

Me too. I am looking for a new job. I teach high school and can't take it much more. I like my students but I want to teach college full time.

I have a lot of anxiety and depression also. Anxiety Meds after surgery had to be split up into smaller pills so I could take them. Life gets difficult at times but remember we are all here together and just breathe you're not alone.

It's a sucky feeling and as much as I hate to say it, I am glad for ant-anxiety meds. I am finding I need them less and less with my daily anti-depressant and now that I am taking much better care of myself but not a day goes by when I don't get that anxiety knot. I hate it, hate it, hate it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
